NOSE AESTHETICS

RHINOPLASTY

Since the size and shape of many elements that make up our face and even our head differ between individuals, people perceive and recognize each other differently. Our nose, which attracts attention because it is located in the very center of our face, which contains many structures, is the closest to our eyes, therefore it is the structure that is mostly changed for aesthetic purposes. Since the nose is located in the center, its compatibility with other structures depends on the smoothness of the size and transition relationship. However, our nose is not just about appearance. It is also important because it provides very important functions such as BREATHING and smell. Although a nose that cannot perform all its functions is good in appearance, it can cause the person carrying it to be unhappy. For these reasons, it is our main goal to have both a HEALTHY and COMPATIBLE nose. The functions of your nose are not just related to your external structure. SEPTUM (the wall that separates the two nasal cavities) and KONKA (the structures that regulate the air flow in the nose), which are the structures behind your nose, are also important in breathing. These structures can also be corrected with functional interventions during aesthetic nose surgery. The aesthetically beautiful nose is also functional because it has ideal angles and size. Therefore, it would be in your best interest to consider your doctor’s recommendations. It will be useful to discuss the changes made to your photo together for better collaboration with your doctor. The purpose of the SIMULATION made by your doctor is to understand whether your thoughts and his / her thoughts overlap and to make preoperative planning.

Your post-operative image will be close to the simulation performed, but it is generally not possible to be exactly the same. This is because the structures that make up your nose consist of skin, cartilage and bone, and these structures can give unpredictable responses during both the surgical intervention and the recovery period. Your nose cannot be shaped like dough. All tissues must complete the healing process in order to take their final shape after surgery. This period is on average 6-12 months.

PATIENTS WITH PREVIOUS SURGERY OR ACCIDENTS

If you are a patient of this type, the surgery to be performed on you will be more difficult due to the deterioration of your normal anatomy. You may not be suitable for every desired intervention because you do not have healthy tissues, or tissue may need to be taken from other parts of your body to meet the tissue requirement.

OPERATION METHODS

There are two methods for rhinoplasty operation, open and closed. Since both methods have advantages and disadvantages, these are taken into consideration when deciding on the suitability for the patient. Open method is the technique that is mostly applied today. In the open method, you will have a small scar that connects the two nostrils. This trace will be little visible in the future. The advantage of this technique is that it facilitates cartilage interventions and provides adequate control during surgery. In closed technique, all of the scars will remain in the nose. However, the interventions to be made are more difficult to control. The method is decided according to the personal needs and priorities of each patient in accordance with the doctor.

SURGERY AGE

Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed from the age of 17 for women and 18 for men.

ANESTHESIA METHODS AND DURATION

Nasal surgeries are performed in a hospital environment under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation is between 2-3 hours. At the end of the operation, a silicone pad is placed inside the patient’s nose and a silicone plaster is placed on the back of the nose. Reason; It is to reduce the swelling that will occur in the early period and to support the new nasal structure for a while and to ensure that its shape fits. The patient is discharged one day after the operation. Silicone tampons in the nose are removed within 2-5 days. In patients who have undergone open rhinoplasty technique, stitches are removed on the 5th or 7th day, and the plaster cast is removed on the 7th or 8th day.

Healing Process

Immediately after the surgery, bruising and swelling may occur around the eye depending on the bleeding that occurs during the procedure and the skin structure of thee person.  It is so normal. The bruising and swelling that occurs disappears completely within about 2 weeks and continues to heal every day. Although a rapid improvement is observed in the first weeks after the operation, it takes between 6 months and 1 year for your nose to take shape completely.
