BRACHIOPLASTY / ARM AESTHETICS
Sagging in the arms can occur due to aging, intermittent weight loss, and the effects of gravity, leading to drooping skin on the back and inner parts of the arms. This condition often requires a tightening (lifting) procedure to address the sagging and accumulated fat tissue. Arm lift surgery (Brachioplasty) can be performed alone or in conjunction with other body contouring surgeries such as tummy tucks, breast reduction or augmentation, and thigh lifts.
HOW IS ARM LIFT SURGERY PERFORMED?
In cases where the skin quality is good and there is no sagging, but there is excess fat accumulation, liposuction alone can yield successful results. However, if there is sagging skin along with excess fat tissue, liposuction alone will be insufficient, and an arm lift surgery will be necessary. Arm lift surgery can be performed under general anesthesia, but it can also be done under local anesthesia if desired. During the procedure, an elliptical incision is made on the inner and back parts of the arm (the sagging area) to excise the sagging skin and excess fat tissue. If necessary, liposuction can also be performed on other areas of the arm in the same session.
ANESTHESIA METHOD AND DURATION
The surgery is performed in an operating room under general anesthesia. The incision site is stitched in two layers from the inside, and the arm is wrapped with a soft dressing at the end of the surgery. You should use the compression garment recommended by your doctor for 2-3 weeks.
RECOVERY PERIOD
About 1-2 hours after the procedure, the patient can go home or can stay in hospital for a night. The next day, the bandages are removed, the surgical site is checked, and the patient is advised to wear a special arm compression garment for three weeks. It is recommended to keep the arms elevated, and after the third week, you can start exercising, excluding arm movements.
